What to do in case of online security troubles

Internet Banking Services Security

Ensuring that your online transactions are safe and secure

As a bank we are used to thinking about security. The growth of the Internet has offered greater flexibility for us all, but it also brings new risks that must be guarded against.At Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania, we use industry standard security technology and practices, focusing on key organizational and technological areas in order to safeguard your account from any unauthorized access.

Access Internet Banking only from the official link / address

Use always only the Internet Banking web link present in the official website http://www.intesasanpaolobank.al of Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania or type directly by hand its address in your browser. Do not use links in other internet web pages to access Internet Banking especially links contained in email messages that may be sent to you.

Data Encryption

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)Encryptiontechnology is used within your Internet Banking session in order to encrypt your personal information before it leaves your computer in orderto ensure no one else can read it while it travels online. Depending on your browser setting, a pop-up window will appear to notify you that you will be entering a secured page.

When you log in to Internet Banking you are said to be in a “secure session”. You know you are in a secure session if the URL address begins with https:// or a padlock symbol appears in your browser in different position according whether you use Internet Explorer or Firefox.

At ISBA, we use 128-bit SSL Encryption using digital certificates, which is accepted as the industry standard level. Please check for the Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania digital certificate before inserting your credentials in your Internet Banking account by clicking on the padlock symbol that appears in your browser.

Also any email service within our Internet Banking service is similarly protected with encryption technology (unlike your regular email accounts whichusually are not secure).

Security Key

The Security Key is a small electronic device that generates an one time password/code at the moment you wish to access Internet Banking. Every customer will be provided his own personal Security Key. The code generated by the Security Key is a random six digit number that serves as an high level security element necessary to access Internet Banking and has to be input during login in addition to the customer’s username and password. The generated code is valid for only 30 seconds after which the button on the Security Key has to be pressed again in order to generate another one time password/code to use. The Security Key is strictly personal and must never be shared with others. Keep it always in a secure place.

Passwords

Passwords are one of the keys to online account information. Please follow some best practices to protect them:

  • Keep them private
    Do not be tempted to share your passwords with anyone.
  • Be unique
    Try and create passwords that are unique, and that cannot be easily guessed by someone else, e.g., don't use your children's or pet's name, home telephone numbers or favorite sports team.
  • Mix letters, numbers and symbols
    Passwords containingupper and lower caseletters, numbers, and symbolsare far harder to guess. The password should contain a minimum of 8 characters.
  • Be different
    Avoid using the password for your Internet Banking for other your different services (e.g. Hotmail, Yahoo, Facebook etc.).
  • Never write them down
    If you really do need to record a password then use a code system, e.g. transpose some of the letters.

No one at Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania will ever ask you for your Internet Banking password. If someone does ask you for it – he or she does not represent Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania.

Automatic Lock Out

After a number of incorrect attempts to log in, we disable online access to your account to prevent illegal tentative of accesses to your online account.

To re-activate your account, you should contact Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania Help Desk service at +355 42 276 222/3.

Session Timeout

If you forget to log-off after using Internet Banking online, or if your computer remains inactive for a period of time during a session, then our systems automatically log you off. Pages viewed during a secure session are not recorded in your computer’s temporary files.

Virtual Keyboard

Sometimes password stealing software illegally installed in your computer record what keys you press while inserting your Internet Banking password. In order to prevent this, our Internet Banking service uses virtual keyboard as an option for you to insert your password by simply clicking or hovering on the virtual keys of the virtual keyboard in order to form your whole password.

We recommend you to use the virtual keyboard whenever it is possible.

Your Computer’s Security

In our view, these rules offer the most protection for the least amount of effort. By following these rules you will greatly increase your computer’s protection, not just when you use our Internet Banking services but when you use the internet generally:

Keep updated security updates and patches for your software

From time to time, vulnerabilities are discovered in operating systems and internet browsers. Before the publisher can release a security patch to correct these weaknesses, they can be exploited by virus writers and hackers to gain unauthorized access to those PCs that have not yet been patched.

To check for patches and updates you should visit the publisher's website, typically in their Download section.

Microsoft users can visit:http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ which can automatically check what is required, and then suggest that you download it.

Phishing / Scamming

The Phishing doesn’t try to violate any security system itself but its target is to steal using different fraudulent techniques the access credentials directly to the Internet Banking customers.

Often this is done by using fake email messages which seems to be sent by the Bank, these emails contain links inside them inviting you to click on them and to insert your username and password in the web paged that the links opens. You can find some example images about phishing emails here.

In reality these links open fake Internet Banking web sites which look identical to the real one and steal your username and password once you insert them on it.

NEVER use links to open your Internet Banking web site.

ALWAYS check for the https://www.abaflex.com web address as well as for the digital certificate by clicking on the padlock that appears in the browsers toolbar.

Untrusted software or files

Never be tempted to use illegal software or files. In most cases they will contain malicious programs designed to steal your information or infect your computer with viruses.

Disable internet browser’s AutoComplete function

This will help prevent others from seeing personal information. On Internet Explorer, for example, the ‘AutoComplete' function remembers data you have input, sometimes including passwords. In case your browser asks you to save the inserted password please select NO.

To disable AutoComplete and delete saved passwords please do:

- Internet Explorer:

- Click on Tools/Internet Options/Content;
- Click on AutoComplete / Settings;
- Uncheck selection from “Usernames and passwords on forms”;
- Delete all previously saved data by clicking on Clear Forms and Clear Passwords;
- Complete the operation by clicking OK on all previously opened windows.

- Firefox:

- Click on Tools / Options;
- Click on Privacy and select “Firefox will never remember history”;
- Click at “Clear your recent history” and select “Clear everything”
- Click OK to close all windows.

Antivirus protection

You must use effective antivirus software to be protected against viruses. In case you are already using anti-virus software this software should be updated on a regular basis with the latest“virus definition” files. If you are unsure how to do this, you should refer to the program's own Help function.

There are many effective programs to choose from, but the most common commercial products are from McAfee, Symantec (Norton), Sophos and Kaspersky.

Firewall protection

Use Firewall software to prevent unauthorized traffic to and from your computer. A Firewall is another small program that helps protect your computer and its contents from outsiders on the Internet. When properly installed, it checks and stops unauthorized traffic to and from your PC.

There are many effective programs to choose from. Common commercial examples are from Zone Labs, Symantec (Norton), McAfee and Kaspersky.

Anti Spyware Protection

Spyware is the term used to describe programs that run on your computer for the purpose of monitoring and recording the way in which you browse the web and the internet sites you visit.

You would not accept for your internet usage to be monitored. Spyware can be used to extract personal information that you have entered, including passwords, telephone numbers, credit card numbers and identity card numbers.

Spyware is often loaded onto a PC as part of a free download of another service - for example a service that claims to improve the performance of your PC. Sometimes your agreement to the download is requested in the small print, but spyware may also be loaded onto your PC without your agreement or knowledge. Spyware is not the same as a virus in that it only records what you do rather than altering how your machine works. Because of this, anti-virus software is not effective in identifying and removing spyware; you will need to download and run a specialized anti-spyware program.

We strongly recommend that you install and use a reputable anti-spyware product to protect yourself against spyware on your computer.

Anti-spyware security software currently available includes McAfee, Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware, Spyware Eliminator, Spyware Doctor and Microsoft Windows Defender.

Avoid file sharing or peer to peer software

Never use file sharing or peer to peer software on the same computer you use for your Internet Banking activities. Many times they are used to open hidden malicious traffic ways to and from your computer under the file sharing mask.

Use only trusted networks

Never use untrusted networks to access your Internet Banking account.

Untrusted network examples include wireless networks (especially when unencrypted or using weak encryption or even public wireless networks), public networks at Internet cafes, libraries, airports etc. Someone else can intercept your financial information.

Corporate usage Internet Banking advices

This advice is for both individual and corporate administrator users but it is more mandatory for these last.

Always use whenever is possible a separate computer only for your Internet Banking activities. Don’t use the same computer for Internet navigation, email etc and at the same time for Internet Banking. This would increase significantly your online Internet Banking security.
